Stories Beyond the Studio:

Meet the Glickenhaus Boot. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what’s been driving us to help bring this program to life.

Some History on the Glickenhaus Boot

Supercar innovator and automotive icon Jim Glickenhaus spotted a rare and intriguing vehicle at a classic car auction that immediately caught his attention. He placed a bid and successfully acquired it. The car was the legendary 1968 Baja Boot, a race-built off-road marvel engineered by Vic Hickey, famed for designing NASA’s lunar rover. The Baja Boot made its debut at the 1969 Baja 500, where it squared off against the factory-built Ford Bronco. What truly cemented its place in automotive history, however, was its ownership by actor and car enthusiast Steve McQueen, who famously drove it in races.

Inspired by this piece of off-road history, Jim and his son Jesse Glickenhaus envisioned something groundbreaking: recreating the iconic Baja Boot for the modern era. With the expertise of racing legend Darren Skilton and the engineering skill of Trophy Truck builders Armada Engineering, the Glickenhaus Boot program was born.

The modern Glickenhaus Boot went on to compete in multiple Baja races, including the prestigious 2020 Baja 1000, where it clinched victory against the reintroduced factory Ford Bronco. History repeated itself that year.

This go-anywhere, off-road beast isn’t just a capable race car—it’s the most formidable off-road vehicle you can legally drive on the street.

We were truly inspired by the opportunity to help create the marketing assets that brought this exceptional program to life.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

An Owner's Manual Should Reflect the Experience of the Vehicle it was Designed for.

Producing the Glickenhaus Boot Owner’s Manual was not just about arranging content attractively—it was about crafting an experience for the end user. We dove in and immersed ourselves in the vehicle, studying its functionality, collaborating with mechanics and engineers, and translating that knowledge into a compelling story. The goal was to ensure that the owner truly understands and enjoys the full capabilities of their vehicle. We were fortunate that Glickenhaus entrusted us with this unique and exciting project.

"Remember that time we left you in the Mexican desert?"

- Erin Lee Skillton

There was a time I found myself sprinting down a dusty road in the heart of Mexico, chasing a shot of a group of Glickenhaus Boots driving off on a desert expedition. When I turned around, I realized the ride I came in had left without me. I was standing alone in the Mexican desert! But moments like these, filled with adventure and unpredictability, were always worth it. I was lucky to be invited time and again to document the remarkable evolution of the Boot project.
